I just love working with clients who know they need a little help and are not afraid to ask for it. One of the sweetest ladies I have had the pleasure to work for — Helen — decided to sell her large two story home in favor of a two-bedroom senior living apartment in the city. She got around remarkably well for someone approaching 90 years old, but the stairs in her home were a concern. Aside from the safety benefits of a senior apartment, she also liked the idea of people nearby to check on her periodically. Helen hired a local senior move manager, Austin Home Transitions, to help her find the right apartment, pack, and move her. The move manager put her in touch with me to help her with the items she would not be taking to her new place.

Helen enlisted us to sell her belongings after she moved out of her large house. She and her late husband had collected incredible poster art, sterling silver pieces, and music. She had high quality cookware that people love to buy in estate sales. Her furniture was great. Helen loved color, and we knew that someone would snap up the aqua plush sofa, the herringbone love seat, and the orange armchair. Those are some of the types of unique pieces of furniture that you just can’t find easily.

We took about a week to prepare the home and held an estate sale over a weekend, which is typical. We had a crowd for the duration of the sale. The new homeowners came to the estate sale, bought a floral sofa, and sat on it for hours while everyone shopped around them. To each their own!

In the end we had very little left to clear out, and the home was empty the next day. Helen was pleased. I caught up with her a few months later in her new apartment — she was enjoying the senior living community and was able to go out as she pleased. Helen’s left the downsizing details to professionals, saving time and stress.
